Opero relaunches as a firm that designs, builds, and operates custom business systems

Founder Travis Ramsey returns to custom software after two exits, as AI coding tools make bespoke systems a practical alternative to SaaS platforms like Salesforce

October 2026. Opero (opero.com) has relaunched as a services firm that designs, builds, and operates custom business systems that replace SaaS platforms like Salesforce. The firm designs how a business should work, including the process and the experience for staff and customers, then architects, builds, and runs the system.

The relaunch responds to a shift in the economics of software. AI coding tools have made custom systems faster and less expensive to build than ever, which makes them a realistic alternative to per-user SaaS licensing. What AI has not made easier is deciding what to build, designing it well, and running it securely afterward. Opero is built around that work.

Opero’s model also breaks with how business software is usually bought. Companies typically license a platform from one vendor, hire a systems integrator to implement it, and then find someone else to keep it running. That means three relationships, and no one accountable for the whole system. Opero is all three. The architect who designs the system builds it and stays on to run it, so there is one firm to call when something breaks or the business changes.

“For years, ‘anything is possible’ came with a price tag that ruled out the best answer,” said Travis Ramsey, founder of Opero. “That constraint is largely gone. Companies can now have software built around how they actually work, without license fees that grow every year. The hard part is no longer writing the code. It is designing the right system and keeping it running.”

Opero publishes its pricing. Engagements move through three phases: Build, which gets the system live; Evolve, which extends it once people are using it; and Operate, which covers monitoring, security, backups, support, and ongoing changes. Every engagement starts with a free review, and a fixed-fee Systems Assessment is available for companies ready to decide. Clients own all source code and documentation.

Ramsey has been building software since 1998. In 2008 he founded Ramsey Solutions, a business process consulting firm that grew to 30 people and delivered around 900 projects for companies including WeWork, Handy, and eBay, before being acquired in 2018. In 2014 he founded a suite of six Salesforce AppExchange applications, used by thousands of customers including Cigna, Harvard, and McKesson, which was acquired by Concord Technologies in 2024. The relaunched Opero is a separate services firm and is not affiliated with that product suite.
